    Notes
    • Wilmot came from a large family and worked out at an early age in the woods all winter and did manual labour. He worked most of the time in Upper Brighton for Fred Robinson, Day's, and Joe Pearson. As soon as work in the woods was over, it would nearly be farming time, so he often did not return to his Simonds home but rather stayed in Upper Brighton. Wilmot and Deane chummed around quite a bit, so he spent considerable time at Hallett's.

Wilmot and Pauline were married by Rev. O.W. (Wellington) Shaw. Their first home was Aunt Susie Dickinson's house (Scott Hallett's sister) up on the hill in Upper Brighton for just one summer. Following this they moved in with Great-Aunt Joanne (Bubar) MacIntyre where Dwayne Bubar used to live in Upper Brighton. From there they occupied Grampy and Grammy Nevers' (Lydia Hallett's parents) house above Dalton's potato house. Their final residence has been the house next to Philip Burke on the west side of the tracks. This is a house which Earl built, Scott Hallett bought from him and lived in from 1946 until his death in 1963, and was then sold to Wim and Pauline.

Wilmot got his papers to work in the States in 1955 and worked in the woods. He, Arthur Clark and Owen Hallett went to Connecticut for a couple of years and then to Michigan in 1964 where Pauline joined him for a short time before they both returned to New Brunswick permanently.

Pauline was a very talented woman who kept a comfortable home and always made visitors welcome. There will be lasting memories of her molasses cookies, green soup, wild strawberry preserves, fudge at Christmas, and always having a wintergreen Lifesaver in her purse at just the right time. She also excelled at any type of handiwork including braiding mats, piecing quilts and quilting, sewing and alterations. She was a hard worker who took pride in what she did. One of her lesser-known talents was playing the piano (and humming), which she usually did privately, but which could be enjoyed if one stood outside her open living room window and listened in the summertime. Pauline was a great lover of history and was a tremendous asset to the Hallett Family History Project. She also had interesting salt and pepper, and china shoe collections.

Pauline and Wilmot enjoyed 50 years of marriage together before his death at home. They enjoyed life and working in the outdoors, gardening both on their main property and on the flat behind them along the river. Often they would spend time watching the various birds that would come to the several feeders and houses they had placed. Picking wild strawberries and fiddleheads were also great outings for anyone fortunate enough to accompany them, as well as picnics, drives and trips to the Beechwood Clock.

Pauline cared for Wilmot at home until he died. She was able to stay in her own home for a number of years, but eventually became a resident in a special care home where she died in May, 2000.
